While completing Assignment 5, there were new skills that I gained that I look forward to using in further assignments. One skill was adding hyperlinks to slides. This allows for powerpoint to be much more engaging and easier to use. I also learned how to use colors and design slides so that the presentation is engaging but not distracting. I liked making an interactive game about a topic that I am passionate about; musical theatre.                  As a teacher, data collecting tools are an effective way to quickly gather information about classroom progress and a group of students. It could also be used to gather information from parents/guardians. As a music teacher I could use information from surveys to present on music in pop culture and the world's understanding of music. It could also be used to engage with non-music students. A technology related skill that I would like to learn is how to cut and edit music and videos on differe...

Throughout my K-12 education, my experience with distance learning is limited. I attended public schools, so most of my learning was done in a classroom with instruction happening at the same time. However, during my sophomore year of high school I took an online French class on FLVS. This required me to learn at my own pace using videos, independent research, and scheduling calls with my instructor in order to be tested. For me personal, this was not the most effective way to learn as I wasn't being held accountable as I would've been had I been in a classroom with an in person instructor.  Open Educational Resources are learning resources that are easily accessible for students and teachers. They are often found online and free of charge. The five rights that associate with OER's include the right to retain, refuse, revise, remix, and redistribute. Examples of OER's include  https://fmea.org/  and  https://www.cpalms.org/ New skills acquired from working on A...

The Web Design Assignment introduced me to new skills that I had never used before regarding technology. I learned how to use different settings, be more efficient with technology, be creative, and how to communicate information through a website as a teacher. I used design principles such as Contrast and Alignment. I used contrast when selecting colors of the font and background, making the text on the website more eligible. The alignment I used while designing helped keep the information organized and easier to read. In the future, I could use website design to keep people in my community informed and involved; not only for teaching but for ministry and non profit organizations.   QR codes are an effective tool that can make communication more efficient in the classroom. I would want to limit my use of technology in the classroom but also would want to utilize this as a resource. A creative way I could implement QR codes in the classroom could be during open house or parent ...

Teacher pages on school websites can be a practical way for parents to receive information about their child's teacher. The information seen on a teacher page can include a the teacher's educational background and contact information. They can also provide information about what their child is learning. After viewing a few teacher pages from Chiles High School, and I found a lot of background information about the different teachers.  I envision myself using technology minimally but also as an effective tool when necessary. For example, for learning I would prefer teaching while using resources that don't require a lot of technology. However for communicating with parents/guardians, I would love to use email and maybe even an online blog to post on occasionally. The blog could include pictures to document field trips, fun class activities, and also what the students are learning in class. Overall, using technology with caution can benefit a family's involvement in their...

The Florida Standard on the CPALMS website include multiple different standard regarding technology. One standard that I found was G.K12.5.3.3a which states: "Know: Identify appropriate technology to achieve a project goal." In other words, students from grades K-12 should be able to use technological resources to reach a learning goal. Based off of my current skill set, I feel confident that I would be able to teach standard technology skills for younger students. For the older students I would need to grow in my knowledge a little more.  Another standard I selected from the CPALMS website was MU.5.C.2.1. This is for teaching music to 5th grade students. Next to the standards are multiple tools and resources a teacher can use to help reach this learning objective. I could potentially use these in my teaching by planning my lessons based off of the given activity ideas and they could also help me track progress as my students would be growing.  The new skills I gained fr...

In both academics and the professional workplace, copyright and fair use should be taken seriously. As a teacher, when developing instructional materials I would make sure that I am sighting sources correctly and am following correct protocols if I use another sources materials. I would continue to emphasize to my students the importance of creating and submitting original work. This would include rewarding for creativity and following through with consequences if a student were to cheat. While plagiarism is not illegal, it does and should lead to serious consequences that can impact a students' academic career, which will lead to their professional life.  As technology in schools continue to increase, so does academic dishonesty. Students have access to cheat, use past work, plagiarize, or communicate dishonestly right at their fingertips. Depending on the school, this problem is unavoidable. However, a potential solution that I would implement in my future classroom would b...

Throughout my K-12 and FSU experience, Microsoft Word was a tool that I used quite frequently. I was introduced to it for the first time in the 3rd grade. Since then, I've used the platform to write numerous essays and assignments for school. Today, I prefer using MS word over other platforms as it is the one I am most familiar with and have easy access to.  While learning about the ISTE Standards for Educators, the standard that is most meaningful for me is 2.4c Use Collaborative Tools.  This is true because I believe that technology should be a tool used to bring students together as they are learning. Sadly I see it used to isolate them, which can hinder them academically and personally. I believe that a successful educator should combine both technological and real life experiences for to enhance learning as well as provide opportunities for students to socialize and collaborate with their peers.  A digital native can be described as a person who grows up surro...
